About

Located west of Fishtown, The Gotham is a new and innovative mixed-use development designed for the modern urbanite.
Featuring 100 residential units and more than 6,000 square feet of newly constructed commercial space, The Gotham was originally home to the Gotham Silk Factory (1917-1935). This unique renovation pays homage to Philadelphia's rich industrial history and offers the conveniences of a modern, upscale community.

Residents of The Gotham can easily access the city’s best cultural and educational institutions, professional complexes, and entertainment hubs. The Berks Station of the Market-Frankford line is blocks away and the complex will have its own Philadelphia Bike Share location as well as secure off-street parking.

The Gotham’s thoughtful design includes the thoughtful and adaptive reuse of historic industrial elements, a wide variety of floor plans, technologically innovative and efficient systems, upscale amenities and lush green spaces, and spectacular views of the Center City skyline.

History

The Gotham is located on the site of the historic Gotham Hosiery factory. The factory was renowned for its high-quality, durable stockings and led the nation in production from 1916 until it shuttered during the Great Depression. Since then, the complex has been home to a light fixture manufacturer, a toy wholesaler, and a furniture-maker. It was purchased in 2018 by E-Built, LLC. Committed to adaptive reuse, E-Built incorporated the exposed ceilings, concrete floors, and other industrial elements from the factory’s heyday into The Gotham’s contemporary design. Hand-stenciled directional signage and motivational messages to factory workers will be preserved throughout the common areas.

The Gotham is being developed by E-Built, a Philadelphia-based Construction Management and General Contracting firm committed to utilizing building practices that are sustainable, energy-efficient, and socially responsible. Founded in 2008, E-Built offers a wide array of services to residential, commercial and institutional clients in the Tri-State area.

Sixty-five percent of The Gotham’s roof surface will be green and designed by E-Built’s Green Roof Division.
